Ron started his insurance career in 1959. After graduation from the University of Louisville with a double degree and serving in the U.S. Army at Ft. Sill, Oklahoma, he joined Aetna Casualty and Surety Companies in Hartford, Connecticut. He was assigned as a Marine State agent to the State of Indiana, and was promoted through the ranks, landing the position of Agency Manger in St. Louis. He was then hired by Standard Underwriters which merged with R.B. Jones of Kansas City, and was later merged into Alexander and Alexander, where he was Vice President of Sales and Programs. He started his own insurance agency in St. Louis in 1983. He was one of the first agents to utilize the Risk Retention Act for his clients.
Ron established offices in St. Louis, Missouri; St. Petersburg, Florida; Chicago, Illinois; Orange County and Palm Springs, California; Washington, D.C.; London, England; and Paris, France. He was also a Name at Lloyds of London, and served as a director of many British and French insurance companies. After retiring in 1993 and moving to the Isle of Palms, SC, Ron became active in the South Carolina Captive Community in 2002.
Ron loves to paint and painted the crossed U.S. and S.C. flags, which The Friendly Society Restored has adopted as our logo.
One of Ron’s assignments in his work with the SC DOI ARTS division is education of the Department’s staff, which dovetails with one of the aspects of The Friendly Society Restored’s Mission Statement: to facilitate education.
